Stop Before The Op Initiative The North East Essex Primary Care Trust will be formally introducing the ‘Stop Before The Op’ initiative on the 1st April 2008, a development endorsed by the Department of Health and the East of England Strategic Health Authority. Research has shown that smoking is a major cause of post-operative complications, resulting in delayed recovery and greater treatment costs. Therefore, surgery will be safer and recovery time reduced if patients stop smoking at least 8 weeks prior to surgery. Patients wishing to stop smoking can be supported here at the Surgery by making an appointment in the Smoking Cessation Clinic or you can be referred to the PCT Stop Smoking Clinics (speak to a Doctor/Nurse about referral). Stop Before The Op Initiative The Practice computer system is being upgraded between Tuesday, 22nd April 2008 and Friday, 2nd May 2008, this will mean that we will be working with a limited service during this time. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, but once the upgrade is completed this will mean a quicker and better service for our patients. If your repeat prescription is due during this time please ensure you put your request in early, no later than Friday, 18th April 2008. Newsletter Archive |
