Computer problems

We would like to apologise to all our patients for the computer problems we had in early January. This was due to a hard drive failure and we were without computers for 3 days. The problem was resolved and we have just about caught up with the backlog of work this created. We thank for your patience during this difficult time and can only apologise again if this caused you any inconvenience. .

Men’s Health Service Colchester NHS Walk-in Centre
Important Message 03/04/2006: This Men's Health Clinic is no longer running. It's take up and effect is being evaluated and a decision will be made by Colchester PCT whether to resume this service or not.

Began 11th January 2006, a new weekly Service for men with health concerns, which is held every Wednesday between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm. The free Drop-in Service is held at the Colchester NHS Walk-in Centre, located in The Octagon, the former Royal London Insurance building, near the bottom of North Hill. There is no need to make an appointment. The Service is run by Nursing Staff (Nurse Practitioner, Urology Specialist Nurse, Health Care Assistant, Stop Smoking Advisor) and managed jointly by the Colchester Primary Care Trust and Colchester Men’s Health Action Group (a patient-led group). It is open to all men from the age of 16 upwards (no upper age limit). The Service is available to men living outside Colchester as well as those resident in the borough. Men can pop in for a confidential chat with Nursing Staff about any health concerns they have. In addition, if they wish, they can take advantage of various Services, including a basic ’MOT’, health promotion and where appropriate, referral to other Services. Information gained during the MOT will enable Nursing Staff to tailor information and advice to the individual. Health promotion will include subjects such as heart disease, male specific cancers, other cancers, diet, exercise, alcohol intake and smoking cessation. Leaflets will be available to take away. The MOT will consist of checks on blood pressure, height, weight, body mass index, waist measurement, blood sugar level, analysis of urine and prostate assessment. Each appointment will last about 20 minutes.
