Tackling Obesity: Local Services The Tackling Obesity service offers a choice of weight management programmes for adults and children. These include-
Shape-Up - The Programme runs for one and a half hours per session and is held every week for 8 weeks. The programme aims to help people lose weight and keep it off in the long-term and improve overall well-being and quality of life. Both daytime and evening courses are available in Colchester and Tendring. Names are placed on a waiting list and when there are sufficient participants (groups usually run with approximately 12 people) they are invited to join a group. An information session is held one week prior to the course, giving participants an opportunity to meet the facilitators, find out more about the course and have an opportunity to raise any concerns.
Weight Watchers - Participants must be motivated and ready to make changes to their lifestyle, and they should not have previously attended a Weight Watchers group. Free Vouchers are offered to enable participant to attend 12 sessions.
Pharmacy Weight Management Scheme - Suitable for people who do not like group situations. They book an appointment to see a trained adviser at a local pharmacy and are seen in a private consultation area. They have an initial consultation and are then seen again for reviews at weeks 4, 8 and 12.
